Bow Cubs Pack

Information Page

At between 8½ and 10½, the Cubs enjoy the journey towards achieving their Chief Scouts Silver Award by earning badges for participating in fun, enlightening and informative activities. Every term starts with a “Pack Forum” where they tell us what would make the meetings more meaningful to them – and their replies are wonderful to hear and range from things to do with considerate behaviour to running around in the field if weather permits!

The programme we offer includes the usual Scouting staples such as knots, first aid, boating, hiking and camping (with the traditional toasting marshmallows on an open fire!), as well as indoor activities in the winter months that can include film making, learning about advertising, global traditions and healthy lifestyle choices. Ultimately the aim is to enhance their communication skills and giving them opportunities to explore the world in a safe space.

The trips we might take them on are linked to the badges, and include Fire Station, Mountain Rescue Centre, and other places. At the same time we welcome guests regularly to our meetings who talk to us about the police, about life in Devon in the past, and about living with disabilities.

Annual traditions such as the Remembrance Day service and St George’s Day are important events in the Cub calendar, as they meet Cubs from around the District and join in the wider group activities. This helps them when they go to camps, as they will already have met the others and interacted with them.

We ask that parents help us out once a term or once a year – even by only being around as an extra adult particularly when we are at the Burston Meadows field. Join in and see for yourself the fun we have!

Meet the Leader

Breifini Perkins

Cub Leader

I recently started volunteering at Cubs to support my daughter. I really enjoy it and have signed up to become a leader.

I grew up in Ireland and lived in the US for 6 years in my 20s before moving to the UK to study. I met my husband here and never left. I worked in Exeter, Dorset and Hampshire before settling in Bow near old uni friends and in time for our daughter to start school. We have one, soon to be two, cockapoos.

I’m a registered occupational therapist and work as a case manager supporting adults and children with disabilities and serious injuries.

Cubs is a welcome weekly break to have fun and support young people in their development. The other leaders are really supportive.
