Bow Beaver Colony

Information Page

Beavers is a fun and safe environment for young people between 6 and 8 ½. The focus is on having fun together with the rest of the group, and along the way they work towards achieving their Chief Scout Bronze Award by taking part in exciting activities and earning badges for them as they go along.

The programme we put together for them allows them to learn many valuable life skills, such as how to be a good friend, basics of first aid, keeping healthy, as well as the usual Scouting activities such as tying knots and camping.

There are annual events that we participate in with other Beaver colonies in the Mid Devon district, such as the Remembrance Day service, the St George parade, and the summer camp, where hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows by the campfire are a firm favourite.

We always welcome parents to come along to help us out each week. Some parents may have talents or knowledge that might be wonderful to share with the group, so do talk to us about that! We even welcome visiting pets and in the past have had a tortoise, a rabbit and even a lamb!

Once a term or so, we take the Beavers on trips to local sites such as the Fire Station, the Mountain Rescue Center and even to a local area where the owners have planted a woodland. We also have visitors such as the Police, local celebrities and a staff member from Vranch House to talk to us about young people suffering from various disabilities.

In short, we keep them busy, learning and having fun, so no two evenings are the same.

We look forward to welcoming you to Bow Beavers!

Meet the Leader

Robyn Briggs

Beaver Leader

I’m Robyn, I started my scouting journey as an occasional parent helper before joining as a cub leader in 2022, I have since changed to the Beaver section. becoming a leader has given me the opportunity to grow in confidence and learn many new skills along the way. I like that no week is the same, and no matter what we are doing the children are always full of enthusiasm. I enjoy crafting, going camping and being outdoors.
